Late this afternoon at approximately 4pm Fairview personnel with 41-11 and 41-45 and Poughkeepsie F.D. 57-12 under mutual aid were dispatched to the People, Inc. building 378 Violet Avenue for a electrical burning odor and haze of smoke in the building.   On arrival firefighters found light smoke in the building with the odor of something electrical burning. 

Further investigation found a burned out water heater in the building and the unit was shut down and checked for any active fire.  No fire found,  smoke was ventilated through natural means and Fairview command  placed Poughkeepsie 57-12 back in service.  Fairivew firefighters remained to complete paperwork necessary for the incident report and finish the ventilation operations. 

Prompt recognition of a potential problem resulting in notification and quick response by the fire department reduce property damages and loss.
